Another week of lockdown completed, and another week of remote teaching and learning done! We are hoping that things improve, and we are back to some sort of ‘normal’ in the new term. A reminder that the Chief Minister will make a decision about what will happen to schooling in Term 4 during the first week of the school holidays. We will communicate to you with specific information on Good Shepherd following this announcement.
I am extremely appreciative of our teachers and staff who are working so hard to deliver a rigorous and meaningful academic remote learning program. They have had to be extremely agile and adaptive in ensuring that our young people are engaged with their learning in a completely different way. I am so proud of our students, too, who are not only concerned about being away from their friends, normal routines and the uncertainty of the pandemic, but have adapted well to remote learning. It is a pleasure for me to ‘pop in’ and visit remote classrooms and seeing our students engaged and happy in this new way of learning. Finally, a big thank you to our parents who are not only juggling remote learning and work from home but continue to support us in a way of teaching we never, ever imagined we would be doing. Thank you.
Happy Father's Day
Hope our Dads, Grandfathers and father figures had a very happy day last Sunday. Hope you were spoilt and had breakfast in bed!
Well done to our Out of Hours School Care provider, TeamKids who have just been through an assessment and rating process at Good Shepherd. It involved the ACT Department of Education visiting and reviewing many elements of Out of Hours Care and spending two days at the service a few weeks ago. Congratulations to TeamKids on receiving an ‘exceeding’ rating. Well done!
Huge congratulations to staff member and Religious Education Coordinator Mr Anthony O’Connell and his wife Anna, on the birth of their child, Gabriel Joseph last Sunday. Gabriel and Mum (and Dad) are all well. Gabriel was born 3.3kg and 52 cms. Gabriel is a new baby brother to Elijah, Ellena Grace, Ashley, Abby, Alba, Lily and James.
Due to the lockdown, our school was unable to participate in our annual sleepout in the school hall. We have received many messages from students who have participated in their own sleepout at home.
This week, I received another one and thought I’d share. Well done everyone!
"My son has decided to complete his Mini Vinnie's Sleepout over the weekend in the middle of our dining area on concrete, cold tiles. He has realised that what the homeless goes through is hard and uncomfortable.
He was able to raise $404.74 and I have donated this to St Vincent de Paul."
Wishing God’s blessings on you and your families,
As a Catholic Christian community, it is important that we communicate each day with God. Prayer is a time to be silent and listen to God.
It is especially important during these challenging times when we can pray for those in need and give thanks for our many blessings.
Holy Spirit Masses
Our community is warmly invited to join in Mass services during lock down via the zoom link on the Pocket Parish app. This is a great way to stay connected to our faith community.
Attending Mass is especially important for those students who are preparing for upcoming Sacraments.
Sacraments of Reconciliation and
At this stage both Sacraments are postponed until we receive further information about restrictions.
Please keep an eye in the newsletter and Parish bulletin for updates in regard to the Sacramental program.
A big thank you to all the students who were planning on participating in the Mini Vinnies Sleepout. Many students conducted their own sleepout at home and continued to raise funds.
If you would still like to donate, you can do so using the QKR app. Go to the ‘Fundraising/Charity’ heading in the School Payments section. If you would like a tax receipt, you can donate straight to Vinnies at https://www.vinnies.org.au/. Any donations will much appreciated, although, there is no expectation.
A reminder that we will not be collecting items for the food pantry during lock down.

From Term 4, 2021 the Compass Parent Portal will be available for all parents/carers of students at Good Shepherd. We will be sending parents/carers their log-in credentials in Week 10 of Term 3. Please read the attached information sheets carefully. These detail what the Parent Portal is, as well as instructions to download the Parent Portal to your devices or desktop.
It is essential that parents/carers download and access the Parent Portal from Term 4. Parents will be able to submit absences, view attendance records, give consent to excursions, update contact information, and importantly, access their child’s school report.
Earlier this term, parents/carers received a Student Information Checklist to update, along with a covering note introducing the Parent Portal. The note explained that the business (work) email address field of both parents will be used as the first contact by Compass to deliver log-in credentials.
If you do not wish for your work email address to be accessed by Compass, please contact the front office by email by Monday 13th September 2021 to change your email address.
We look forward to starting the Compass Parent Portal journey with you!
