Welcome back for Term 3. It was great to see everyone enthusiastic and ready for a busy and productive term. Although the weather was cold during the break it is always great for us all to have a break from school, recharge the batteries and spend extra time at home with our families. I hope you all enjoyed your time at home.
A special welcome to our seven new students who have joined us this term.
Ms Sonya Huleatt is on long service leave for the next four weeks and we have welcomed Mrs Robyn O’Rourke to 2H for this time.
Mrs Sarah Corkhill is also on leave for the first two weeks of term. She does many different roles here working in Year 2 and Kinder and is being replaced by different relief staff.
Congratulations to Keith Roberts and Michelle Norris who announced their engagement during the holidays. Best wishes to you both.
COVID-19 update and changes
Good Shepherd Catholic School and Catholic Education continue to take advice from ACT health authorities in relation to COVID-19. The Catholic Education Office has a team that is actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation as it develops, paying particular attention to local hotspots and organising support for schools where required. Good Shepherd is practicing all safe hygiene practices in line with government advice. We understand that the situation is fairly fluid and we will communicate directly with you should there be any important changes in relation to our school operations in the coming weeks. We remind all families:
- students and staff will only be allowed at school if physically well;
- parents and visitors may drop off and pick up, however, please maintain social distancing and do not gather on school grounds. In only necessary cases, parents may enter the school building through the front office and must use the Check in CBR app when entering the school grounds;
- all adults entering the school buildings may only do so after signing in at the front office, affirming they are well and sanitising their hands;
- the ACT Government has now imposed tighter restrictions for ACT residents returning from COVID-19 affected areas. These new restrictions mean that any person who has entered the ACT after 11.59pm on Friday 9 July 2021 from Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour is required to quarantine for 14 days;
- quarantine is a more stringent requirement than the ‘stay at home’ order that is in place for people already in the ACT from these areas. Being quarantined at home means these persons need to stay at home. They cannot go to work, school or public areas such as shops, cafes, or restaurants. ‘Stay at home’ arrangements remain unchanged for those who arrived before 11.59 pm on Friday 9 July 2021.
Should you have any questions in relation to our school and COVID-19, please feel free to contact our office.
Did you know…. Only 45% of parents open our newsletter each week?
This term, we will trial producing a formal newsletter every fortnight (weeks 1,3,5,7,9) and other weeks we will send a one-pager with just reminders.
A lot of hours and time goes into producing a weekly newsletter so we are hoping this format will help improve the ‘uptake’ of readers.
During the month of July we are trialling a swap of lunch times. Students will be encouraged to play first and eat after. This will also involve eating lunch first, and then recess at the second break.
We are trialling this as other schools who follow this approach have found this change supports an increased focus in class, reduced playground issues and improved eating habits. Also, the reduction of rubbish will support our ‘Don’t let it roam take it home’ approach.
If you have any individual concerns for your child/ren please contact your child’s teacher.
We will seek feedback after the trial dates from students, staff and parents.
Our annual Athletics Carnival will be held at Amaroo Oval next Friday. More information will be distributed tomorrow. It is always a fantastic community day.
Due to COVID and ACT restrictions regarding social distancing etc, we will defer our ‘Exploration Learning Journeys’ that were scheduled for Tuesday 10 August, to hopefully later in the year.
Wishing God’s blessing on you and your families,
