Hats - Navy blue legionnaire-style hats are a compulsory part of the school uniform. Students are required to wear a hat for all outdoor activities including sport, outdoor play and excursions. From the beginning of August to the end of May, Good Shepherd enforces the rule of NO SCHOOL HAT - PLAY IN THE SHADE! We adhere to the advice given by the Cancer Council ACT stating students can play outside without a hat in the months of June and July. Students are welcome to wear a navy beanie or the regular school hat during these months.
School bags - All children carry a navy blue school bag printed with the school logo.
Personal grooming - A student’s hair should be kept off their face and, if longer than the length of their collar, it must be tied back in an appropriate school coloured band. This means wearing hair in plaits (preferably), braids or pony tails. Hair should also be of natural colour, and extreme haircuts are not encouraged. Navy blue and white are the only acceptable colours for hair accessories at school. Jewellery, particularly necklaces and bangles/bracelets, must not be worn to school. The only jewellery items which may be worn to school are: a watch, a medical bracelet and plain stud earrings (no hoop or loops or dangles). This rule is for safety reasons on the playground. Please consider carefully keeping the wearing of a chain and cross or medal for special occasions only. Parents and carers are reminded that Smartwatches, fitbits and similar devices with cellular, photographic and film capabilities are not permitted at school. The mobile nature of these devices poses a risk to student wellbeing and safety. When these technologies are misused by students, they can be very disruptive to students’ welfare, socialisation and in some cases, cause various levels of harm.
Please note that fleecy pants or leggings are not official uniform and are not to be worn. If the children wear a parka or windcheater to school it must be plain navy.
